Made-to-measure wardrobes planned around your room, your clothes and the way you get ready each day. Crystal Kitchens and Bedrooms designs and installs fitted, walk-in and loft wardrobes for homes across West and East London.
Wardrobe designing is the process of planning a wardrobe around one specific room: its measurements, ceiling height, windows, radiators, sockets and door swings, and around what you need to store. Unlike a ready-made unit, a designed wardrobe is made to fit the space, so there are no awkward gaps at the sides or above, and the inside is laid out for your own clothes, shoes and accessories.
Most problems with wardrobes come from planning rather than from the wardrobe itself. Rails set at the wrong height, drawers that clash with a door, or a sliding track that leaves a dead corner are easy to avoid on paper and expensive to fix once installed. That is why we start with the room and your routine, and choose finishes afterwards.
The right type depends on the size of the room and how much you need to store.
Floor-to-ceiling units built into the room, often around a chimney breast, alcove or bed. They use height that freestanding furniture leaves empty, and can include dressing areas and bedside units as part of a complete fitted bedroom. Our bedroom design page shows this in more detail.
A dedicated dressing space with hanging, shelving and drawers on more than one wall. It suits a spare room, a large main bedroom or a part of a room that can be partitioned. You can see examples on our walk-in wardrobe page.
Loft rooms and eaves rarely take standard furniture. We design storage that follows the roof line, so low areas hold drawers or shelves and full-height hanging sits where the ceiling allows. See our loft wardrobe designs.
If you prefer a clean, contemporary look or a premium finish, wardrobes are also available as part of our modular, modern and German-style bedroom designs.
Sliding doors suit rooms with little space in front of the wardrobe. Hinged doors suit rooms with enough clearance and let you see everything inside at once.
| Feature | Sliding doors | Hinged doors |
|---|---|---|
| Space needed in front | Very little. Doors stay within the frame. | Enough clearance for the doors to swing open. |
| Access to the inside | Usually one section open at a time. | The full width can be opened at once. |
| Typical look | Clean flat panels, plain or mirrored. | Flat, shaker or classic panelled doors. |
| Often chosen for | Compact bedrooms and tight spaces. | Larger rooms and traditional designs. |
We recommend one after measuring your room and checking how much space the doors need.
Good storage is decided on the inside. Before choosing door finishes, it helps to list what you own: how many long dresses and coats, how many shirts and jackets, how many pairs of shoes, and what needs drawers rather than shelves. We can include:

Our head office is at 270 Church Road, Northolt, so West London is where we work most closely. Homes here vary widely: converted Victorian and Edwardian houses with chimney breasts and alcoves, mansion flats with high ceilings, and newer apartments where every square metre counts. Each needs a different approach, from full-height units that use the ceiling to compact sliding designs for smaller bedrooms. We also design wardrobes in central-west areas such as Chelsea and Mayfair.
If you are looking for wardrobe designing in West London, book a consultation and we will talk through your room, your storage needs and the options that suit them.
We also design and install wardrobes in East London, including Romford, Hornchurch and Chigwell. Homes in these areas include family houses with generous bedrooms, loft conversions and newer flats. In a larger bedroom, a walk-in wardrobe or a full wall of fitted storage often makes sense. In a loft room, custom-shaped units make use of the low eaves.
For wardrobe designing in East London, contact us with your postcode and a few details about the room and we will arrange a visit to discuss it.
We work with MDF, plywood, laminates, acrylic and glass, together with branded hardware. Designs range from modern and contemporary to shaker, classic and luxury, so the wardrobe can suit a minimalist flat or a traditional family home.
Crystal Kitchens and Bedrooms designs and installs kitchens, bedrooms and wardrobes for homes in London and nearby counties. Because we also design study rooms, TV units and other fitted furniture, your wardrobe can be matched to the rest of the room, or to the rest of the house.
